Maintenance Technician Job Description

Maintenance technicians’ primary responsibility is conducting routine maintenance and repairs for a facility’s equipment and machinery. Depending on the industry and work environment, some maintenance technician jobs may require special training or certifications, especially if the job works with heavy machinery. Maintenance jobs that work primarily with machinery may have titles like “maintenance mechanic” or “industrial maintenance mechanic.”

Other maintenance technician responsibilities include:

• Performing regular diagnostics tests to ensure system functionality
• Assembling and installing new machinery and equipment
• Working with a variety of power and hand tools to complete tasks
• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment
• Keeping a schedule of when specific maintenance tasks are needed
